Participation of the President of EURORAI in the I International Public Sector Audit Forum

In response to the invitation of the Institute Rui Barbosa (which is responsible for the initial and the continuing vocational training of the personnel of courts of audit in Brazil and has an observer status at EURORAI since 2016), the President of EURORAI, Friedrich Pammer, took part in the 1st International Public Sector Audit Forum, which was held remotely on 24 and 25 June 2021.
The conference was devoted to the theme “Audit of measures to combat COVID-19” and was organized, among others, by the Institute Rui Barbosa, the Association of Members of Brazilian Courts of Audit, the Federal Court of Audit of Brazil and the Court of Audit of the Federate State of Rio Grande do Sul. More than 1000 participants from nine countries took part in the event, including representatives of EUROSAI, AFROSAI and OLACEFS, besides EURORAI.
In his presentation, Friedrich Pammer not only addressed the manifold consequences that the COVID-19 pandemic has triggered worldwide and in Europe, but also presented the challenges raised for public sector audit institutions. The numerous issues affect all levels of society, governments and public institutions in a wide range of sectors. Topics to be highlighted for public sector audit are in particular:
- Specific actions and measures in crisis management
- Performance and management of healthcare institutions
- Funding and support measures for the economy and the labour market
- Public debt development and the necessary consolidation of public budgets.
In his concluding remarks, Friedrich Pammer also focussed on the impact of the pandemic on the activities of EURORAI and how the Association has already dealt with current developments and problems and will include them when determining the topics and content for its future events.
