In response to the invitation of the National Audit Office of Lithuania, who chairs the EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit (EUROSAI TFMA) established in 2016, a EURORAI delegation took part as observer in the 1st EUROSAI TFMA Seminar and the 1st annual meeting of EUROSAI TFMA members held in Riga on 5 and 6 October 2017. The EURORAI delegation was made up of the Member of the EURORAI Management Committee and President of the Court of Audit of Saxony, Karl-Heinz Binus, the Representative for EU and international matters of the Court of Audit of Lower Austria, Franz Berger, and the Head of the General Secretariat, Edgar Thinnes.

The purpose of the seminar and the meeting was to exchange best practices among member countries and to search to attain the highest added value from municipality audit. At the meeting, the representatives of EURORAI provided a short overview of the organisation, its objectives and activities.

The seminar and the meeting were hosted by the State Audit Office of Latvia and organized together with the National Audit Office of Lithuania. The participants in the event came from 30 countries among which were not only representatives of 29 EUROSAI member states, but also the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions and EURORAI. The EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit was set up in June 2016 by the EUROSAI Governing Board. It unites SAIs from 27 EUROSAI member states. The National Audit Office of Lithuania is the initiator and the Chair of the TFMA.

The members of the EURORAI delegation will present a report on their participation in the event in Riga to the EURORAI Management Committee at the next meeting which will be held in Seville on 26 October. The committee will decide then on the further involvement of EURORAI in the activities of the Task Force, which would include, among others, the participation in an analysis of the existing systems of municipality audit throughout Europe.
