New! The restructuring process of French regional audit chambers (RAC) which begun four years ago has finally led to the abolition of seven regional audit chambers, which have been integrated into other chambers with effect from 2nd April 2012.

Last 22nd March Stephen Taylor, as President of EURORAI, made an introductory presentation at the round table on the subject “Regional Governance: efficiency, transparency and control” which had been organised by the Chamber of Regions within the framework of the 22nd Plenary Session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe held in Strasbourg.

The regular meeting of the ACAG (Australasian Council of Auditors-General) and the CCOLA (Canadian Council of Legislative Auditors), hosted by the Audit Office of New South Wales, was held in Sydney (Australia) from 12 – 15 March 2012. These meetings take place every two years alternating between Canada and Australia.

In spring 2012 the Regional Audit Chamber of Aquitaine, in collaboration with EURORAI, will organise a seminar on the fight against fraud and corruption. The event will take place on 7 and 8 June in Bordeaux.

In its meeting held in Rostov-on-Don, the EURORAI Management Committee agreed to accept the invitation offered by the organizers of the XIV National Symposium on the Audit of Public Works to take part in this event. The symposium took place from 7th until 11th November in the city of Cuiabá, the capital of the Federate State of Mato Grosso in Brazil. The event was organized by the Court of Audit of the Federate State of Mato Grosso in cooperation with the Brazilian Institute of Audit of Public Works (IBRAOP, in Portuguese).

114 delegates coming from 11 different countries attended the International Seminar on Local Government Audit which took place on 7th October in Rostov-on-Don. The event was hosted by the Chamber of Control and Accounts of Rostov Region.

The first EURORAI working group meeting on the subject of fraud and corruption was held in London on 30 September. The group comprises Alan Bryce (Audit Commission (England)), John Gilchrist (Audit Scotland), Birgit Fuchshuber (Court of Audit of Upper Austria) and Michel Carles (Regional Audit Chamber of Midi-Pyrenees (France)).

The Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions, OLACEFS, held a meeting last 30 September 2011 with the representatives of the EURORAI General Secretariat in its seat located at the Audit Office of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. The objective of this official visit was to gain a knowledge of the operation and activity of EURORAI, exchange experiences and analyze aspects related to organisation and improvement.

The Management Committee of EURORAI has received with great sadness the news about the sudden death of its former member John Sherring.

Sergey Vadimovich Stepashin, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, visited the canton of Valais on 11 and 12 July 2011 at the invitation of the former President of EURORAI, Christian Melly and Jacques Melly, President of the Government of the canton of Valais.

In its last meeting held on 25th March 2011 in Salzburg the Management Committee of EURORAI agreed to set up as pilot project a working group on the subject of external auditing of fraud and corruption.

At the invitation of the host institution of the event, the Court of Audit of Portugal, a delegation of EURORAI made up of the President Stephen Taylor, the Management Committee Member Helmut Brückner and the Head of the General Secretariat Edgar Thinnes, took part in the VIII EUROSAI Congress held in Lisbon.

80 delegates coming from 9 different countries attended the International Seminar on New Public Management in Europe which took place on 20th May in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe. The event was hosted by the Court of Audit of Hesse.

At its meeting held in Seville on 22 March, the Conference of Presidents of Audit Offices of Autonomous Communities in Spain decided to appoint the President of the Audit Office of Castile-La Mancha, Miguel Ángel Cabezas de Herrera Pérez, and the President of the Audit Office of Galicia, Luciano Fariña Busto, as new representatives in the Management Committee of EURORAI after the departure of Joan Colom Naval.
